My Khe Beach

Da Nang's headline beach: a long, wide arc of pale sand running south from the city, once nicknamed 'China Beach' by American troops on R&R. It's clean, well kept and genuinely central — high-rise hotels back one end, but there's plenty of open sand and the swimming is good when the flags are green. Loungers and umbrellas rent cheaply, vendors work the sand, and the seafood restaurants behind the strip are the local move for dinner. Come at dawn to watch Da Nang's residents swim and exercise before work; it's the city at its best.
